New Wildfire Commission Established

Interior Department creates it as a provision of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law

The Department of the Interior announced last week the establishment of the new Wildland Fire Mitigation and Management Commission. This multi-department effort, created by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, will collaborate with federal and tribal wildfire experts to research and recommend a one year plan and a ten year plan to reduce wildfire risk across the country.

“Climate change and increasing development in the wildland urban interface are rapidly changing the complexity and response challenges for the fire service,” said U.S. Fire Administrator Lori Merrell. “It is time for us all to recognize that wildland fire is not just a forest or rural problem any longer.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Administrator Merrell as she works with this new commission to craft solutions.
  • For Secretary Deb Haaland as she guides the Interior Department to aid this effort.
  • For Interior officials as they address wildfires in the United States.
